As time went on, another variation of serving caught on: all ingredients were mixed, dressed with mayonnaise and served as a salad. Exactly this way the dish has made it for Russian people.

Herring under beetroot and boiled vegetables, with homemade mayonnaise dressing One of the versions of this salad was created by the chef of "Russia" restaurant in Moscow in the end of XIX century for a ceremonial dinner in honor of coronation of the Emperor Alexander III.
